Red Dot Pistol Training

Just picked up a new red dot sight and can’t find the dot?  Heard about red dots on the internet, but not sure how they work?  We can help you figure it out.

Red dot sights, also know as RDS or reflex sights, offer some significant advantages for most shooters.  Unfortunately there’s also a learning curve involved in transitioning from iron sights to red dot sights. Many shooters, especially more experienced shooters with loads of time using iron sights, have a tough time “finding the dot.”

Our 2 hour course will get you on target.  We’ll cover the advantages and disadvantages of red dot sights, techniques to help find the dot and tricks to make the transition easy.  By the end of class you’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch sooner!  Bring your own red dot equipped pistol or rent one of ours. 

Private red dot training is $200 for a 2 hour session for one participant and is held at COSSA Park just east of Bend, OR.

All sessions include:

  • Gun safety rules
  • Range safety rules
  • Strong emphasis on safe handling
  • Overview of the controls and operation of your gun
  • Fundamentals overview: Grip, Stance, Sight Picture & Alignment (and how this differs for a red dot compared to iron sights, and Trigger Control
  • Dry firing
  • Customized training drills based on your existing skills and goals – determined through email exchange to schedule training

  • Gun(s) you will bring for training – don’t have a gun? That’s ok, please reach out and we can discuss options!
  • Previous gun handling and firearms experience – no experience required!
  • Your goals for the training session

What to bring:

  • Wear closed toed shoes
  • Wear pants with belt loops (for belt with holster)
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Hat with a brim
  • Your pistol: including ammo. magazines and magazine holders
  • Holster for your pistol, belt if available
  • Snacks and water – there is no water on site
  • Dress in layers as the temperature can change dramatically throughout the day
